The following day your morning is free to explore Reykjavik, enjoy the capitals museums and art galleries or just soak up the lovely city atmosphere. Then we start the afternoon by visiting Iceland's most famous attraction, the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most famous tourist attractions and considered by many to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as well as an unmissable part of one´s visit to Iceland.
The Blue Lagoon offers lava and moss filled scenery, state of the art facilities, a unique atmosphere and silica masks that make your skin extra firm, yet incredibly soft! Included in this combo is the Blue Lagoon Comfort Package where you receive entrance to the Blue Lagoon, silica mud mask, use of a towel, and a drink of your choice.
After couple of hours and an amazing warm soak in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon, you head back to Reykjavik on one of our new and comfortable coaches, offering you free Wi-Fi. Upon arrival back in Reykjavik, you have some free time to relax, have dinner and wait for your next adventure in the evening, a hunt for the extraordinary northern lights. Make sure to wear warm clothes!
The Northern Lights Tour in Iceland takes you to see a spectacular natural phenomenon that happens during the winter months. The northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole.
The locations visited during the northern lights tour vary from day to day depending on weather conditions. Our northern lights team studies thoroughly the weather and aurora forecasts in order to find the best location each night to spot the lights.
The next day starts by driving from Reykjavik to the historic Þingvellir National Park. This was the venue for the Icelandic parliament from 930 till 1798 and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, both for its rich history and amazing nature. This is also where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
We then head onwards on the Golden Circle route to the Geyser geothermal area. Known throughout the world for its power and beauty, Geyser has become a synonym for this amazing show of nature. Strokkur, another hot spring, sits nearby and is very active, erupting to heights up to 30 meters every few minutes. Follow one of many paths and enjoy steaming springs bubbling all around you. In the Geyser Area you will also have time to buy lunch or some snacks.
Next on the agenda is the waterfall Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall. One of the most popular attractions in Iceland, Gullfoss will amaze you with its raw power and beauty, plummeting down 32 meters into the rugged canyon below.
These three attractions complete the classic Golden Circle but to add even more to your experience we also stop at the spectacular Kerid Volcanic Crater. This 3000 year old crater is 55 meters deep and offers a unique view of the beauty of the Icelandic nature.
We then head to our final destination of the day, the village of Hveragerdi. The village is packed with famous greenhouses powered by green energy, horse farms and even a Geothermal Park where you can try bread baked in the ground, boil yourself eggs in a hot spring or simply relax in the mud foot SPA.
At your hotel you will also find hot tubs filled with natural, local geothermal waters. Make sure to bring your swimwear with and enjoy a relaxing dip in warm waters full of minerals. Your room will have a private bathroom and you can enjoy a buffet breakfast in the morning.
After breakfast we set off on the second day of the escorted tour and head for the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall. You’ll be able to experience this waterfall right up close as it crashes off the side of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano from a height of 60 meters.
Our next stop is a bit of a secret, the Gljufrabui Waterfalls is a hidden waterfall, which most visitors miss. Well tell you where to find it! And then a real treat as we make a quick stop at Irafoss, a private waterfall, that not everyone have access to.
We then pass by Volcano Eyjafjallajokull, its eruption on 2010 brought air traffic to a standstill across Europe.
Camera’s at the ready for our next stop. Skogafoss is one of the most iconic waterfalls in the world, and even featured in Game of Thrones. Because of its south-facing position, it is often covered in rainbows as the 60-meter cascade of water produces a lot of spray! Skogafoss is one of the most popular sights in the country and its possible to climb to the top of the falls to see it from there too
We then stop at the Solheimajokull Glacier which is part of one of the largest glaciers in the country, Myrdalsjokull. Enjoy the raw views around and get as close as possible to the glacier cap.
Heading onwards it’s now time to visit the world-famous black sand beach at Reynisfjara, where beautifully-shaped basalt columns hug the cliffs, volcanic sands are pounded by powerful Atlantic waves and the starkly shaped sea stacks of the Reynisdrangar tower just offshore
We overnight at a hotel on the South Coast. Your room will have a private bathroom and you can enjoy breakfast in the morning, Keep a look out for the Northern Light which often appear in the area.
The third day starts with short stop in Vik Village that offers stunning views over Black Sand Beach and hills surrounding this small settlement before moving on to Eldhraun, a barren and desolate wasteland filled with moss-covered lava formations.
Hofskirkja Church is our next stop. Hofskirkja was the last church of this type to be built in Iceland, dating back to the 19th century. Deep layers of turf make up the roof of the church here, which is also surrounded by moss-covered burial mounds
We then make our way to the Glacier Lagoon, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is truly an extraordinary place, a bucket-list location featured in several Hollywood movies, but also very peaceful and tranquil too. The scenery is stunning, and always changing too, as wind and tides pull the icebergs in different directions all the time. Here you can also spot seals swimming around the ice chunks or resting on surrounding beaches.
Just a few hundred yards away from the Glacier Lagoon you will see the Diamond Beach, that gets its name from the countless sparkling fragments of multi-coloured icebergs found here. They are slowly being sculpted into fantastic shapes by the wind and the waves on this black sand Atlantic beach.
Then we enter the Vatnajokull National Park and last but not least, one of the true highlight of this tour awaits you! Blue Ice Cave expeditions starts with super jeep ride towards the natural ice cave. The Blue Ice Cave really shows the tremendous forces of Icelandic nature, as they are formed naturally in glaciers when fresh water freezes in the plunging winter temperatures. New caves are created every year as the glaciers freeze and melt and refreeze into different shapes. It’s a memorable sight to see, with fabulously different ice formations in a range of striking colours. Our local guides will take you to the most beautiful blue ice caves to be found here. Once you’ve been there, that single blue ice cave might never exist again, so this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
You will be dropped at your hotel and you can spend the evening enjoying the capitals many bars and restaurants before being transferred back to the airport the following day for your flight back to the UK.
