You will see all of the main attractions Iceland has to offer in this 10 day round trip. Explore the history and experience the dramatic landscape in all parts of Iceland. Visit erupting geysers in the great Geysir hot spring area, gaze upon Vatnajökull glacier, Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and many other unique places like Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland, waterfalls like Goðafoss and Gullfoss, Snaefellsnes peninsula and Snæfellsnes glacier, lava fields and bird colonies, the magical scenery at lake Mývatn and the fossils of Tjörnes peninsula, scenic fjords of East Iceland and the Skaftafell National Park.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND

Arrival in Iceland and collect your hire car and head to the capital Reykjavik. If time allows, go for an exploration walk around Reykjavík. Spend the night in Reykjavík in a 3 or 4* hotel.

Day 2: WHALE FJORD AND SAGA VALLEY

Explore the scenic Whale fjord and the saga valley Borgarfjörður. Check-in to one of the hotels in West Iceland for two nights.

Day 3: SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA

Explore Snæfellsnes peninsula with its snow-capped volcano Snæfellsjökull, stunning coastlines, lava fields and bird colonies.

Day 4: SKAGAFJÖRÐUR AND GLAUBÆR TURF FARM

Today head to Skagafjörður, the valley of horses and home of Glaumbær turf farm. Check-in to your North Iceland 3* hotel for 2 nights.

Day 5: AKUREYRI AND MÝVATN AREA

Explore Akureyri, the capital of north Iceland, and Goðafoss, the waterfall of the gods. Explore the sights of lake Mývatn, maybe take a Whale watching trip.

Day 6: TJORNES

Drive around Tjörnes peninsula and then proceed further to the east across the wastelands to the Eastfjords, overnight at the Eastfjords in a 3* hotel.

Day 7: EAST FJORDS

Spend the morning travelling along the coastline of Lagarfljót River. Stop in Hallormsstaður, where Iceland’s largest forest is located. Proceed further south whilst enjoying the scenic East fjords. Stop in Höfn for the glacier exhibition before proceeding further along the glacier. The Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is there to impress with its floating icebergs. Tonight spend the night in a 3* hotel in the Vatnajökull region.

Day 8: WONDERS ALONG THE SOUTH COAST

Drive along the south coast and witness many natural wonders such as black lava beaches, waterfalls and glaciers. A visit to the folk museum in Skogar is worth the while which is close to the impressive Skogarfoss waterfall, this evening stay in the 3* Fosshotel Hekla or similar for the night, if it’s a clear night look for the Northern Lights.

Day 9: GULLFOSS WATERFALL AND GEYSIR HOT SPRING AREA

Head out on the Golden Circle and visit the Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot spring area and Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site before heading back to the capital where you will spend the night in a 3* or 4* hotel.

Day 10: DEPART FOR HOME

If time allows: Enjoy Reykjavík or explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for relaxation. Drop your car back at the airport and catch your flight home.
