from £439.00

Day 1 Arrival

Your flight from the UK will land at Keflavik International Airport where you’ll collect your car for your exciting 7 nights of hunting the Northern Lights and seeing some of the great sights Iceland has to offer.

Depending on your arrival time, if it is early enough it gives you a great chance to experience the famous Blue Lagoon which is situated not far from the airport. Located amidst a moss covered lava field the milky blue waters are said to have healing qualities and the warm waters are the perfect place to relax and enjoy a drink from the swim up bar. The Viking museum is also not far from the airport if time allows.

You will then head for the capital, Reykjavik where you will spend the night, head towards the Old Harbour for some fantastic restaurants.

Day 2 West Iceland

Enjoy a filling breakfast before starting the day by leaving the capital and make your way past the city mountain Esja. We recommend you take the Hvalfjordur fjord route instead of taking the tunnel. This route takes a little longer, but you'll see incredible views of mountains and the ocean and ruins of an old WWII army base.

After the Hvalfjordur fjord, you'll pass the farmlands of western Iceland until you near the town of Borgarnes. Head to a couple of beautiful waterfalls, Barnafoss and Hraunfossar. The former rushes violently through a narrow, rocky gorge while the latter trickles down black lava from Hallmundarhraun lava field. Hallmundarhraun was formed in an eruption over a thousand years agoand inside this lava field is one of the largest caves in Iceland, Vidgelmi its strange rock formations and icicles. The hot spring Deildartunguhver is worth stopping at to see the raw power of mother nature at work.

Stop at the Krauma spa, where hot water from Deildartunguhver has been mixed with cold water from a nearby glacier to create the perfect bathing temperature. The town of Borgarnes is a great place to stop for a dinner before you make your way towards your accommodations on the Snaefellsnes peninsula where you’ll stay for 2 nights.

On a clear winters night away from the light pollution the chances are seeing the Northern Lights appear are pretty good.

Day 3 Snaefellsnes peninsula

Head towards the North side of the peninsula and Grundarfjordur which was once an important trading port, now it is a sleepy fishing village and close by is one of Iceland’s most photographed attractions, the beautiful Kirkjufell mountain which starred in Game of Thrones as ‘arrowhead mountain’. Then continue west along the coast into the National Park passing charming fishing villages on the way to the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier which was the inspiration for the Jules Verne’s classic novel ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’.

Inside the national park, you’ll find Djupalonssandur beach made out of smooth black pebbles. The southern coastline of Snaefellsnes peninsula is beautiful, and you can stop at Londrangar rock stacks and the traditional hamlets of Hellnar and Arnarstapi.

Day 4 The Golden Circle This morning you’ll leave the beautiful Snaefellsnes peninsula behind and had for the famous Golden Circle. Before you leave stop at the Gerduberg cliffs, a 500m long cliff face comprised of hundreds of hexagonal basalt columns.

Then it is onwards into Golden Circle country and the Thingvellir National Park. The park is both the birthplace of Iceland’s parliament, Alþingi, and where the Eurasian tectonic plate and North American plate are being pulled apart making a rift valley between.

You will then head to the geothermal area of Geysir. Here is where you can see bubbling mud pools, steaming hot springs, and erupting geysers. Strokkur is the most active and burst out a hot water column up to 20m in the air every 5-10 minutes or so. The waterfall Gullfoss is the final of the three Golden Circle attractions and this is where freezing glacial water that rushes forth from the Langjokull Glacier and plunge into a canyon over this spectacular double waterfall.

You’ll then make tracks for the capital, Reykjavik where you spend your last evening amidst the quality restaurants and lively bars the city has to offer.
