On day 2 we set off for the Golden Circle Classic, one of the bestselling day tours! Follow in the footsteps of the Vikings of old as you walk down into the rift valley where the American and Eurasian continental plates are literally pulling apart at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of the oldest existing parliament.
Þingvellir National Park
Located on the northern shores of Þingvallavatn, Iceland's largest lake, Þingvellir is the national pride of Iceland and the first National Park. It is, for one, a key location in Icelandic history as the oldest existing parliament in the world first assembled there in 930 AD. For this reason, Þingvellir has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is, therefore, a protected national park due to its unique geology and natural features. From the viewing area the Almannagjá canyon between two tectonic plates can be seen, a visual representation of continental drift.
Then we head to the Fontana Spa located at Laugarvatn, take advantage of the panoramic views while enjoying the natural saunas and bathing in the soothing warm pools of varying temperatures.
Fontana has three steam rooms built over a natural hot spring and a traditional sauna along with four different hot pools. Those more adventurous can take a dip in Laugarvatn Lake and cool down between the steam baths and sauna. The steam temperatures range between 40°C and 50°C depending on the temperature of the hot springs and the weather. The steam rooms create a unique experience since you can smell the hot water boiling underneath the grids in the floor. The traditional sauna has a lower humidity than the steam rooms, but the temperature is higher or between 80°C and 90°C.
The three connected outdoor mineral baths vary in depth, size and temperature. It is perfect to relax and socialise. From the hot tub, you can see a panoramic view of the countryside around Fontana and the northern lights if you are lucky and they show up early. Sóley Organics shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner is available for all in the changing rooms.
Afterwards we continue on to the geothermal springs as the ground trembles and hot water spouts spectacularly skywards at the Geysir Hot spring area.
Geysir Hot Springs
A favourite stop along the Golden Circle is the highly active Geysir Hot Spring Area with boiling mud pits and the lively Strokkur which spouts water 30 meters into the air every few minutes. The area became active more than 1000 years ago and comprises more than a dozen hot spring holes. Although you can only see steam emerging from the surface of Geysir these days, its name was adopted to represent spouting hot springs all over the world.
Our final stop is the magnificence Gullfoss Waterfall, a set of glacial river cascades falling 32 meters into a narrow canyon with a thunderous roar. Gullfoss Waterfall
As one of the most popular attractions in all of Iceland, Gullfoss is a waterfall located in the Canyon of the Hvítá River in the southwest of the country. The beautiful Hvítá river rushes southward in three steps into a narrow canyon with a breath-taking roar and grandeur. Furthermore, on clear days the magnificent Langjökull glacier, Iceland's second largest glacier, can be seen in the distance. Guests may use the restroom and purchase food and refreshments at this location as well.
Day 3 at the time of your choosing we head to the Blue Lagoon. Soak up in the warm and comfortable Blue Lagoon, one of the wonders of the world, during your visit in Iceland. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most famous tourist attractions and considered by many to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as well as an unmissable part of any visit to Iceland.
The Blue Lagoon is surrounded by a mossy lava field, offering incredible scenery, with state of the art facilities, a unique atmosphere and silica masks and water that make your skin extra firm, yet incredibly soft! For these reasons and many more, visitors from all over the world visit the Blue Lagoon daily, and many return here again and again.
