The hotel offers an excellent restaurant, a large second-floor lounge bar with views across the river, a games room with pool table, and an upstairs balcony that serves as a great spot for stargazing or viewing the Northern Lights and there are three outdoor hot tubs that overlook the river.
Hotel Rangá is located in the Icelandic countryside, far away from most light pollution. The hotel turns off the external lights to provide optimal conditions to view the night sky. On clear nights, you will be able to spot beautiful constellations and distant planets. If you are lucky, you might even be able to watch the Northern Lights in style as you soak in one of ther geothermally heated hot tubs.
The Northern Lights are truly astonishing and wooden benches are located outside the hotel, handmade specifically for guests to sit back and watch the skies. To keep you warm while you watch, the hotel provides soft blankets. The bar is open 24/7 if you feel like a midnight hot chocolate or even a hot toddy. Should the lights make an appearance the hotel offers a wakeup call service.
The observatory stands about 150 meters east of the hotel. With the push of a button, the roof rolls out of sight, revealing the gorgeous night sky above. High walls shelter guests from the cold wind, though you can borrow snowsuits to keep you warm while stargazing. About 20 people can stand inside the observatory at once and gaze at the Milky Way in all its glory.
On clear nights from September to April, the hotel invites a local astronomer to guide guests through a tour of the dazzling night sky. These experts can help you use the high-tech telescopes to see stars and planets in amazing detail. Turn your gaze toward space and learn about the wonders of the night sky, the stories behind ancient constellations and the formation of far-off stars and planets.
Featuring views of the beautiful Rangá River and the majestic Eyjafjallajökull glacier-volcano, the Rangá Restaurant offers guests a world-class gourmet dining experience.
