A short winter trip to Reykjavik and the Icelandic countryside with an optional glacier hike. This holiday offers great value for money! During the day we explore Southwest Iceland, known for its natural wonders and cultural sights. Spend two nights in Iceland's capital and two nights in South Iceland, an ideal location for the search for the Northern Lights.

On arrival at Keflavik International airport you will meet our representatives and they will transfer you to your hotel in the Capital Reykjavik. Your 3* Hotel will be within easy reach of the cities attractions and have facilities like Satellite TV. All rooms have a private en-suite bathroom and breakfast is served each morning. After check-in the rest of the day is free for you to start discover beautiful Reykjavik.

The following morning, after breakfast we take an hour tour of the highlights of the capital and then head out towards the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Discover the wonders of the Reykjanes peninsula with old lava flows, the grand barrenness, rough shore-side, spectacular breaking surf, hot spring areas, small fishing villages and abundant bird life.

We stop near a tall lighthouse close to sea stacks. The peninsula has plenty of volcanic features with hot springs, sulphates and mud pools and a couple of small shield volcanoes plus some fissures through the lava fields. You get the unique chance to cross a small bridge between two continents, the American and Eurasian continental plates.

We then spend a couple of relaxing the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular attractions, a geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field and an oasis that owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant. Comfort admissions is included which comes with a drink from the pool bar, a face pack and towel.

We then head South to spend the night in Hella, your accommodation will have a private bathroom and you can enjoy a buffet breakfast the following morning.

After breakfast we head further along the south coast, we pass the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano. Under the Eyjafjallajkull glacier is the famous volcano that erupted in the spring of 2010. Although a relatively small eruption, it caused a huge disruption to air traffic across Europe for a week.

We then stop off at Seljalandsfoss, a graceful ribbon-like waterfall, which drops from an overhanging lava cliff. It is possible to walk behind it, but do not expect to stay dry!

Our next stop is the Skogar Museum, one of Iceland’s finest folk museums. This museum contains an outstanding collection of farm and domestic artefacts from Iceland’s past and several turf-built houses.

Get your cameras ready next for the mighty Skogafoss, in the small village of Skogar there is Skogafoss waterfall which is 60 meters high and is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country.

In the afternoon you can go on an optional glacier walk. On this fun, safe and easy to moderate glacier walk you get to explore the wonderland of ice sculptures, water cauldrons, ridges and deep crevasses on the breath-taking Solheimajokull Glacier. While enjoying all the features of the glacier and its spectacular surroundings, you will learn more about the behaviour of glaciers and their impact on nature. No technical requirements are needed for the tour as an experienced glacier guide will teach you how to use basic glacier equipment, such as crampons and an ice axe which are provided for glacier walk tours. Duration of this activity is approximately 3 hours in total, about 90 minutes on the ice and about 30-40 min walk from the car park to the glacier edge itself.

Next we take a stroll on the black lava beach and along bird cliffs at Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Interesting caves and impressive rock formations can be seen, including columnar basalt. We then visit the village of Vik for a photo stop. Before heading back to the hotel in Hella for another night.

After breakfast we set off on the famous Golden Circle, making our first stop at the Fridheimar Farm, here you will learn all about the Icelandic horse, its unique qualities and history and visit a geothermal greenhouse.

Then the first of the three Golden Circle blockbusters and the geothermal area Geyser. There are a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools to see and although the original geyser is now dormant,  Strokkur, "the Churn", which erupts at 5-10-minute intervals.

Our next port of call on the Golden Circle is the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss  or Golden falls, perhaps the most beautiful in the country. The glacial river of Hvítá or White River which tumbles 32 meters in a double cascade.

Our final stop of the day is at the Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. Stroll around the country’s most sacred site, home of the oldest existing national parliament in the world, the Alingi, and major events in the history of Iceland. Thingvellir is a place of fascinating natural beauty, a spectacular geological vista, set on a vast plain flanked by large fissures, right by Iceland’s largest lake, Thingvallavatn.

We then head back to the capital Reykjavik for the final night, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to try and then the following day you will be transferred back to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
