PHOTOS

THE DEAL

On arrival at Keflavik International airport you will meet our representatives and they will transfer you to your hotel in the Capital Reykjavik. Your 3* Hotel will be within easy reach of the cities attractions and have facilities like Satellite TV. All rooms have a private en-suite bathroom and breakfast is served each morning. After check-in the rest of the day is free for you to start discover beautiful Reykjavik.

Then after dinner (or the following evening if your flight arrives in the evening) in the evening we will come and pick you up and join us in the search for the rare and elusive northern lights (Aurora Borealis) in the skies around Reykjavík on this all time winter bestseller! For many, seeing the Northern Lights is the reason to travel to our northern island in winter. They are mesmerising, and a sight that will not be forgotten.

It is simple, nothing says “Icelandic Winter” like the idea of hunting for the Aurora Borealis. Created by solar storms originating from the sun, the Northern Lights need clear winter skies to be seen.

The expert operational team has decades of experience analysing weather patterns. We will review, each and everyday, the cloud forecast and the northern lights forecast in detail. We will not venture out in search of them unless we think we have good chance. This means we have a high success ratio.

All our northern lights tours are guided by one of our specially trained northern lights guides, they are both knowledgeable and helpful and will even give you tips on how to take photos of the night sky and of aurora. We offer free use of camera tripods (a must to take northern lights photos), we only have a few so if you own a tripod be sure to bring it along.

Every guide brings along an astronomical telescope for you to try out. Look for the stars and astronomy signs in sky using the provided star map and see the space that surrounds in a new way.

he following day we take you to the Volcanic Eruption in Geldingadalurto witness the raw power and stunning beauty of mother nature and get the rare chance to witness a Volcanic Eruption up close and personal. This first eruption in the Reykjanes Peninsula in about 800 years provides an unique opportunity to study the geologic mysteries of the region and is open for all to enjoy! After being shaken by months of increasingly disruptive earthquakes, Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula is finally experiencing the volcanic eruption that many geologists suspected was on its way.

The driver and guide will take the group to the start of the hiking route towards the volcano in Geldingadalur, where the group will be towards the volcano. The hike will take approximately 1.5-2 hours each way and the trail is conveniently marked.

Important information

Our local agents will follow the recommendations of the Civil protection service and cancel the tour if circumstances at the eruption site are unsafe.

Please be aware of the public guidance for hikers visiting the site. For more information, visit the Department of Civil Protection.

Be aware that the weather can change quickly and wear hiking shoes, warm and waterproof clothing.

Assume that the journey may take longer than planned.

Bring a packed lunch and water to drink.

Keep an eye on your travel companions. Fatigue and hypothermia come quickly. Stick to hills and ridges and avoid valleys and dells in the landscape.

There is a risk of rock fall. Beware of steep slopes

Eruption sites can change, and new eruption cracks may open on short notice. Gas pollution is strongest close to the area and can lurk in valleys and dells where it is particularly dangerous. Gas pollution can change on short notice if the eruption suddenly increases, and it is dangerous to be near the eruption sites without measuring instruments.

The eruption could last a maker of weeks, months or years, there is no way of telling. Should you book this package and the tour not happen due to either safety or the fact that the eruption and lava flow has ceased then your trip to Iceland will still go ahead and you will be able to either claim a refund of the tours value or select a new tour and put the value towards it.

Prices are based on 2 sharing and are based on London departures but we can offer this tour from the regional airports that serve Iceland. We can also offer this deal staying in your hotel of choice and upgrade to a 4* or we can offer apartments if you prefer. Please enquire.
