The Full Monty Winter Tour

THE DEAL

Enjoy our Full Monty winter break with includes Iceland’s three most popular excursions.

Day 1 – You’ll fly to Keflavik where we transfer you to your hotel in Reykjavik, the Hotel Cabin. This popular hotel offers a great base with small but comfortable room with satellite TV and an inviting bar. Once you’ve settled into your hotel the rest of the day is free to explore the capital.

This evening you’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken in search of the Northern light. The expert English speaking guide will have done their home work and plotted the best area to see the lights, so you’ll head out of Reykjavik away from the light pollution in search of the dancing lights.

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. They are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis.

Of course this tour is depending on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. If you don't see any lights on your tour you are welcome to join the tour again free of charge on the following nights.

Day 2 – After a local buffet breakfast we set out on The Golden Circle which needs little introduction as it includes some Iceland’s most stunning sights.

You will see the hot spring Strokkur shoot a column of water up to 30 metres into the air every 4-8 minutes – a thrilling experience that just never gets old. We also visit the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created where the river Hvítá tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32m deep. Our tour also includes the historical and geological wonder that is Þingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimetres per year.

Additionally we visit the idyllic Friðheimar greenhouse cultivation centre, where we learn about the magic behind growing delicious, pesticide-free tomatoes and cucumbers with the aid of the geothermal heat that Iceland has in abundance.

Arriving back in the late afternoon, you’ll be free to explore the city this evening.

Day 3 – After breakfast you are free to take one of the hourly shuttles to the famous Blue Lagoon.

The lagoon holds 6 million litres of geothermal seawater which is renewed every 40 hours and is rich in minerals, silica and algae. The water´s temperature is 37-39°C/98-102°F. The deepest part of the lagoon is around 1,60m/5,2ft, but most areas are far more shallow. Please note that the lagoon floor, although smooth, is naturally uneven.

The lagoon is designed for relaxed bathing. So, while you can swim gently around the lagoon, its warm, cloudy water is not suitable for vigorous exercise. Diving is not allowed anywhere.

The Blue Lagoon offers a wide selection of refreshments, from gourmet meals at the restaurant to ready-to-go bites at the café – there is something for everyone including a swim up bar so you can enjoy a drink or 2 whilst relaxing in the warm waters of the lagoon.

You are free to spend as long as you like at the Blue Lagoon, take in a treatment or two and coaches leave the Blue Lagoon at 11.15 until 2115 (not at 2015) for Reykjavik and the journey takes around 50 minutes.

Day 4 or 5 – You bid farewell to Reykjavik and Iceland as we transfer you back to Keflavik Airport for your return flight to Bristol or you could extend you stay and experience more of this wonderful island.

We can offer the tour with any of the other hotels we feature in our hotel section, just make a request for the hotel of your choice and we’ll get right back to you with a price.

Flights are available from London Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen & Belfast subject to availability.

Our prices are based on the cheapest departure date in any month, from the cheapest airport and correct at time of publishing and subject to availability.
