Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon Midnight Sun Tour
Witnessing the midnight sun is an almost surreal experience and this tours offers the change to witness some of Iceland best sights in the evening daylight.
You’ll see the Natural beauty and rich history of Þingvellir National Park, get up close to an erupting hot spring at Geysir geothermal area and see the raw power of Gullfoss Waterfall plus you’ll get the chance to bath in the secret lagoon.
On arrival at Keflavik International airport you’ll be met from your flight from the UK and transferred to your hotel in the capital Reykjavik. You’ll be staying at the 3* Hotel Cabin or similar where you’ll have a room with en suite bathroom and enjoy a local buffet breakfast each morning.
The following evening the Golden Circle Tour takes you from Reykjavik to Þingvellir National Park, arguably the most important site in Iceland in terms of history, culture, and geology.
A UNESCO world heritage site, Þingvellir National Park is home to Iceland‘s largest natural lake and the place where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia split and drift apart. Þingvellir is also the birth place of the Old Icelandic Commonwealth and the Alþingi assembly, where Iceland’s most powerful leaders met to decide on legislation and carry out brutal viking-age justice.
From Þingvellir, the tour continues through an area of beautiful scenery towards two of Iceland's greatest natural attractions at Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area.
At Gullfoss waterfall you can take a short walk down a pathway and get right up close to this powerful waterfall and feel the mist of glacial water on your face as it cascades down into the narrow Hvítárgljúfur Canyon.
Leaving Gullfoss, lunch break is usually taken ar Gullfoss Cafe or at the Information Centre at Geysir area.
Home of "The Great Geysir" hot spring, which all geysers are named after, this area is an impressive collage of bubbling mud pools, hissing steam vents, and colourful algae deposits. It also features one of the world's most reliable fountain geyser, Strokkur hot spring, that every 4 to 8 minutes blasts out a column of super heated water up to 20 metres into the air.
From Geysir hot spring area we head to the Secret Lagoon, a natural hot spring and pool located near the village of Flúðir in South Iceland, just off the Golden Circle route. Fed by mineral-rich geothermal water from nearby hot springs at a steady temperature of 38° to 40°, the Secret Lagoon’s pool of water is perfect for bathing and relaxation.
Over the years, the Secret Lagoon, or Gamla laugin as it was referred to by locals, has been part of the local culture that is keeping alive the unique and authentic Icelandic open-air geothermal bathing experience.
The Secret Lagoon offers neat and clean locker rooms, showers and changing facilities, as well as a small bar and eating area. Boardwalks and footpaths surround the concrete encased pool enabling guests to explore small hot springs and geothermal features in the immediate area.
The rest of you break is at your own leisure, why not add one of the many trips available or just relax in Reykjavik under the midnight sun.
At the end of your stay you’ll be transferred back to the airport for flight back to the UK.
