Glaciers & Lights Winter Tour

PHOTOS

THE DEAL

Iceland is famous for its Glaciers and this tour includes two of Iceland’s biggest. On arrival you’ll be transferred from the airport to the Hotel Cabin in Reykjavik.

This popular hotel offers clean and comfortable accommodation, just 15 minutes walk from this fascinating and exciting city centre with countless bars and restaurants. The hotel itself offers a traditional buffet breakfast each morning and has an inviting bar.

On the first night (or night of your choice) you’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken in search of the Northern light. The expert English speaking guide will have done their home work and plotted the best area to see the lights, so you’ll head out of Reykjavik away from the light pollution in search of the dancing lights.

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. They are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis.

Of course this tour is depending on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. If you don't see any lights on your tour you are welcome to join the tour again free of charge on the following nights.

Day 2 – After a buffet breakfast you’ll be picked up for a 9am start where we take you on a tour that combines the popular Golden Circle tour with the adventure of a lifetime - a one hour snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier, Iceland´s second largest glacier.

First we stop at Þingvellir National Park which is known for its exceptional beauty and historical importance. Þingvellir is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia meet. The second stop is at the high-temperature geothermal area known as Geysir, with its numerous spouting hot springs. From there we drive to Langjökull where we take a one hour exhilarating snowmobile tour on the vast white snowcap.

On our way back to Reykjavík we stop by the stunning Gullfoss waterfall. For the snowmobiles, it’s 2 person per snowmobile and to drive you are required to have a valid driving licence. Protective clothing is provided.

Day 3 – After a buffet breakfast you’ll be picked up for a 9am start where a little less than two hours drive from Reykjavík is Eyjafjallajökull glacier, and just a little further the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends down from Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland´s fourth largest glacier. A glacier hike is a great way to experience Icelandic nature. We take an easy glacier walk on crampons up on to the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses awaits discovery. During the hike you learn more about these disappearing giants.

We will provide and teach you how to use basic glacier equipment for this tour. On the way back we make two stops, at the striking waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Depending on your length of your stay, you can either spend free time exploring Reykjavik or take one of our other many tours.

On your final day you’ll be transferred back to the airport in plenty of time for your return to the UK.

We can offer the tour with any of the other hotels we feature in our hotel section, just make a request for the hotel of your choice and we’ll get right back to you with a price.

Our prices are based on the cheapest departure date in any month and correct at time of publishing and subject to availability.
